Description

The Orbis is a 100mm surface-mounted round downlight with a copper-finish outer drum and a black inner reflector, machined from turned aluminium. A single GX53 LED bulb (sold separately) sits recessed inside the drum, casting downward-directed light through the black aperture while the copper body remains unlit, functioning as a visible ceiling accent rather than a hidden fitting.

Designed for rooms with shallow ceiling voids or solid ceilings where recessed downlights cannot be installed, the Orbis mounts directly to the ceiling surface using a concealed baseplate, eliminating the need for cut-outs or void access. It suits hallways, landings, bathrooms (dry zones only — IP20 rated), kitchens and living rooms in flats, period conversions and timber-frame buildings where ceiling construction limits recessed options. The 100mm diameter keeps the visual footprint compact on the ceiling plane.

The turned aluminium body acts as a heat sink, conducting warmth away from the GX53 LED to extend bulb life and maintain output. The copper finish is powder-coated or plated (specification does not detail which process), giving a warm metallic tone that sits between polished copper and brushed copper in reflectivity. The black internal finish prevents light spill onto the inside walls of the drum, concentrating output downward through the aperture. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a compatible GX53 dimmable LED and appropriate dimmer switch.

Does the Orbis come with a bulb?

No. The fitting takes a standard GX53 LED bulb, sold separately. GX53 bulbs are widely available in warm white (2700K-3000K), neutral white (4000K) and cool white (5000K-6000K) colour temperatures.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating limits the Orbis to dry zones only (Zone 3 or outside zones in UK bathroom regulations). It cannot be installed directly above baths, showers or within 60cm of a water source.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when paired with a dimmable GX53 LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. Not all GX53 LEDs are dimmable, so check the bulb specification before purchasing.

How is it mounted?

The Orbis mounts to the ceiling surface using a concealed baseplate that fixes to the ceiling with screws. Electrical connection is made to the baseplate, then the copper drum clips or screws onto the base to conceal the wiring. No ceiling void or cut-out is required.
