Description

The Orbis is a 100mm round surface-mounted downlight with a body and base turned from solid aluminium and finished in black powder coat. The fitting takes a single GX53 bulb (sold separately) in a recessed socket, creating a focused downward beam with minimal glare. Unlike recessed downlights, the Orbis mounts directly to the ceiling surface, making it suitable for spaces where ceiling voids are shallow or non-existent.

Designed for hallways, corridors, retail spaces, offices and residential rooms where task or accent lighting is needed without ceiling penetration, the fitting works as general overhead light or as a highlight for specific areas. The 100mm diameter keeps the visual footprint compact while the black finish recedes against dark ceilings or contrasts cleanly against white. The aluminium body acts as a heatsink, allowing the GX53 bulb to run cooler and extending bulb life.

The fitting is dimmable when paired with a compatible GX53 dimmable LED bulb and appropriate dimmer switch, allowing light levels to be adjusted for different times of day or activities. The IP20 rating confines use to dry indoor environments. The turned aluminium construction gives the fitting a uniform cylindrical profile with no visible fixings on the outer surface once mounted.

Is the Orbis dimmable?

The fitting itself supports dimming when paired with a dimmable GX53 LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. Standard non-dimmable GX53 bulbs will not dim and may flicker or fail if used with a dimmer circuit.

What bulb does it take?

The Orbis takes a single GX53 bulb, which is a flat disc-style LED or CFL bulb with a two-pin twist-lock base. GX53 bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED between 6W and 9W depending on the brightness required.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the fitting has no water ingress protection and is not suitable for bathroom zones. It should only be installed in dry indoor environments such as hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, offices and retail spaces.

Does it require a ceiling void for installation?

No. The Orbis is a surface-mounted downlight, meaning it fixes directly to the ceiling surface without needing a recessed void or cutout. This makes it suitable for solid concrete ceilings, shallow voids, or situations where recessed downlights cannot be fitted.
