Description

The Nocturne is a constant voltage LED driver supplying 12W of output power at 24V DC, designed to power low-voltage LED strip lighting, cabinet lighting and small accent installations. The driver converts 230V AC mains input to a stable 24V DC output, with built-in protection against short circuit, overload and overheating.

Designed for indoor residential and light commercial use, the driver fits into ceiling voids, behind cabinet plinths, and other concealed locations where mains-to-low-voltage conversion is needed. The compact 80mm × 38mm housing allows installation in tight spaces, and the 150mm output cable connects directly to LED strip terminals or DC barrel connectors. The IP20 rating requires dry, indoor mounting away from direct moisture.

The white plastic casing houses the transformer, rectifier and protection circuitry in a single sealed unit. At 12W maximum load the driver can power approximately 2-2.5 metres of typical 5W-per-metre 24V LED strip, or a small cluster of 24V accent lights totalling under 12W combined draw. The non-dimmable design provides a fixed 24V output and should not be paired with dimmer switches on the mains input side.

Ideal Lux covers the Nocturne driver with a 5-year manufacturer warranty, reflecting the long-life expectancy of solid-state LED driver components when operated within their rated load and temperature range.

Frequently Asked

Can this driver be dimmed?

No. The Nocturne is a non-dimmable constant voltage driver. Connecting it to a dimmer switch on the mains input side will not dim the LED load and may damage the driver or cause flicker. For dimmable 24V LED installations, a PWM dimmer module should be placed on the low-voltage output side, or a dimmable LED driver should be used instead.

How much LED strip can this power?

At 12W maximum output, the driver can power approximately 2-2.5 metres of typical 5W-per-metre 24V LED strip, or 1.5-2 metres of denser 6-7W-per-metre strip. Always total the wattage of the connected LED load and ensure it stays under 12W to avoid overload shutdown.

What does IP20 mean for installation?

IP20 indicates the driver is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm (fingers, large debris) but has no moisture protection. It must be installed indoors in a dry location, away from bathrooms, kitchens without splash guards, and outdoor areas.

What input voltage does it accept?

The driver accepts 230V AC mains input, standard for UK and European installations. The mains input cable terminates in a two-pin Euro plug as shown, which connects to UK mains via an appropriate adapter or fixed wiring into a ceiling rose or junction box.
