Description

The Newbrighton is a 250mm-tall mini bollard light built around a brushed brass cylindrical body with a frosted glass diffuser wrapped between horizontal brass bands. The IP55-rated enclosure houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 40W) and emits light through the glass section and the top of the bollard, casting both horizontal path illumination and upward wash light.

Designed for marking pathway edges, patio borders, driveways and garden bed boundaries, the bollard stands low enough to avoid obstructing sight lines across a garden while providing functional wayfinding light after dark. The 102mm diameter footprint suits installations spaced 2-3m apart along paths or positioned singly at steps, corners and entrances. Installation requires a low-voltage outdoor-rated cable run and a ground spike or base mount depending on surface type.

The brushed brass finish provides a warm metallic accent that weathers naturally outdoors, developing a patina over time that softens the initial high shine. The frosted glass diffuses the bulb's point source into a softer ambient glow, reducing glare and spreading light more evenly around the bollard. The IP55 rating protects against low-pressure water jets and dust ingress, making the fitting suitable for UK garden conditions year-round. Elstead backs the Newbrighton with a 10-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Newbrighton take?

The bollard takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-8W and 2700K-3000K for pathway lighting. The IP55 rating means the bulb itself does not need to be IP-rated.

How is it installed?

Installation depends on the surface. For soft ground (soil, lawn, gravel), use a ground spike driven into the earth. For hard surfaces (paving, concrete, decking), a base plate bolted to the surface is needed. The bollard requires a mains-voltage outdoor-rated cable run — this is not a solar or battery-powered fitting.

Will the brass tarnish outdoors?

Yes. Brushed brass weathers naturally when exposed to outdoor conditions, developing a patina that darkens and softens the initial finish. This is a characteristic of the material, not a defect. The IP55 enclosure protects the internal components regardless of surface patina.

What spacing is recommended between bollards?

For continuous pathway lighting, space bollards 2-3m apart depending on the brightness of the bulb used. For accent or wayfinding lighting at steps, corners and entrances, single bollards can be positioned as needed without creating a continuous line.
