Description
The Newbrighton is a 650mm brushed brass bollard light with a cylindrical aluminium body and a frosted polycarbonate diffuser band at the head. The bollard houses a single E27 bulb socket (bulb sold separately) behind the diffuser, casting light horizontally through the frosted band and down onto the path or driveway below. The IP55 rating protects the internal components against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making it suitable for exposed outdoor installation in UK weather.
Designed for pathways, driveways, garden borders and patio edges, the Newbrighton provides low-level directional light without glare at eye level. The 650mm height positions the light source below typical adult sightlines when walking, reducing light pollution while still illuminating the ground surface for safe navigation. The bollard mounts to a concrete foundation or paving slab via a base plate, with cable entry through the bottom of the post. Installation requires a qualified electrician to connect to outdoor-rated mains wiring.
The brushed brass finish is applied to solid aluminium, giving a warm metallic tone that weathers naturally outdoors. Over time the brass develops a patina that darkens the surface slightly, which can be cleaned back to the original tone with brass polish if preferred, or left to age naturally. The frosted polycarbonate diffuser is impact-resistant and UV-stable, maintaining light transmission without yellowing or becoming brittle in sunlight. The bollard is backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty covering material and finish defects.
Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Newbrighton takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for pathway lighting. The frosted diffuser works well with clear filament-style LED bulbs as the diffuser softens the light evenly.
How is it installed?
The bollard mounts to a concrete foundation or paving slab via a base plate fixed with masonry anchors. Cable entry is through the bottom of the post, requiring a cable run either buried in conduit or routed through the foundation. A qualified electrician is required to connect the bollard to outdoor-rated mains wiring with RCD protection.
Will the brass finish tarnish?
Yes. Brushed brass develops a natural patina outdoors, darkening slightly over months of exposure to weather. This is a normal characteristic of brass and can be cleaned back to the original tone with brass polish, or left to age naturally for a darker, more antique appearance.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The IP55 rating protects against water ingress, but brushed brass will tarnish more quickly in coastal environments due to salt air. For coastal installations, regular cleaning with a damp cloth and occasional brass polish will maintain the finish. Alternatively, consider a marine-grade stainless steel or powder-coated aluminium bollard for lower maintenance in salt air.
