Description
The Manhattan is a 470mm outdoor wall lantern with a die-cast oil rubbed bronze frame and clear glass panels on all four sides. The design references early 20th-century railway station lanterns, with a stepped canopy, vertical frame posts, and a flat overhanging roof that shields the single E27 bulb fitting. The oil rubbed bronze finish is applied by hand, giving a dark brown-bronze tone with subtle tonal variation across the surface.
Designed for front doors, porches, garage side entrances and garden pathways, the Manhattan carries an IP44 rating for protection against water splashes from any direction. The 318mm projection means the lantern stands well clear of the wall, providing downward and outward light throw suitable for steps and doorways. The clear glass on all four sides allows maximum light output from the bulb, making this a functional choice where illumination matters as much as appearance.
The die-cast construction provides durability against temperature swings, coastal salt spray and UV exposure without the weight of solid brass or the fragility of sheet metal. The 286mm width and 470mm height make this the larger variant in the Manhattan range, suited to double doors, barn entrances or porches with ceiling heights above 2.4m. The stepped backplate and layered roof detail give the lantern architectural presence when lit or unlit.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Manhattan takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the vintage-inspired aesthetic.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The die-cast construction and oil rubbed bronze finish provide good resistance to salt spray and coastal conditions. The IP44 rating protects internal components from water ingress. Regular rinsing with fresh water will extend the finish life in high-exposure coastal sites.
What fixing method is used?
The lantern mounts to the wall via a stepped backplate with concealed fixings. The backplate is fixed to the wall first, then the lantern body attaches to the backplate. Wall plugs and screws are typically supplied, but check the box contents on arrival.
Can it be mounted on a rendered wall?
Yes. The backplate sits flat against rendered, brick, stone or timber walls. Ensure the fixings are appropriate for the wall substrate — use longer screws and deeper wall plugs on rendered walls to reach solid masonry behind the render.
