Description

The Lumos is a 45mm diameter optical lens designed to modify the beam angle of recessed LED downlights to 55°, producing a broader light spread than standard narrow-beam downlight fittings. The lens clips or seats into the front of compatible LED modules, replacing the factory optic and redirecting the light cone outwards for wider room coverage.

Designed for general ambient lighting in living rooms, offices, hotel lobbies and retail spaces where soft, even light distribution is required across larger floor areas, the 55° beam angle reduces the number of downlights needed to light a room compared to narrower 24° or 38° optics. The wider angle also minimises harsh shadow lines under furniture and along walls, creating a more balanced visual environment.

The lens is moulded from optically clear polycarbonate, which maintains high light transmission (typically above 90%) while resisting thermal yellowing under prolonged LED heat exposure. The 45mm diameter fits most standard UK and European recessed downlight modules rated up to 15W, though compatibility with specific LED driver and module combinations should be confirmed before ordering. The lens adds negligible depth to the fitting and requires no tools to install once the original optic is removed.

Frequently Asked

What downlights is this lens compatible with?

The 45mm diameter fits most standard recessed LED downlight modules from Ideal Lux and other manufacturers. Compatibility depends on the module's front bezel and lens retention method. If you're unsure whether this lens will fit your existing downlight, contact us with the downlight model number.

How does the 55° beam angle compare to standard downlights?

A 55° beam angle produces a much wider pool of light on the floor or work surface than a typical 38° or 24° downlight. This means fewer fittings are needed to light a room, but each individual light pool will be less intense at its centre.

Can the lens be used with dimmable LED modules?

Yes. The lens is a passive optical component and does not affect dimming performance. Dimmer compatibility depends on the LED driver inside the downlight module, not the lens itself.

Does the lens reduce light output?

Polycarbonate optics typically transmit over 90% of the light produced by the LED, so the reduction in lumen output is minimal. The broader beam angle does reduce peak intensity (lux at centre) compared to a narrower beam, but total light output remains nearly the same.

Free worldwide delivery

Free worldwide delivery on all orders over £99. International orders for third-party brand products may be subject to an additional courier surcharge based on volumetric weight, particularly on larger lighting fixtures — if a surcharge applies, our team will email you with the amount before dispatch and you can proceed or cancel for a full refund. See full delivery terms.

Returns

30-day returns window from delivery. As all our products are electrical or lighting goods, returned items must be inspected and recertified by a qualified electrician before resale — the cost of this inspection (25–40% of the item value) is deducted from your refund.
