Description

The Lucidia is a 400mm diameter lampshade built around a PVC core wrapped in black fabric, with a white inner lining that reflects light back through the shade opening. The tapered drum shape narrows slightly from base to top, creating a softer profile than a straight cylinder while maintaining the structured geometry of a classic drum shade.

Designed as a replacement shade or to customise existing lamp bases, the Lucidia fits standard pendant, table lamp and floor lamp fittings. The 400mm diameter suits mid-sized table lamps in living rooms and bedrooms, or pendant drops over side tables and reading corners where a softer light pool is needed than a smaller shade would provide. The black fabric exterior absorbs ambient light, directing the majority of the output downwards and through the bottom aperture.

The fabric is stretched taut over the PVC frame without visible wrinkles or gathers, and the white lining prevents the black exterior from absorbing all the light output when the lamp is on. The combination gives controlled downward throw with a small amount of upward spill, making the shade suitable for rooms where task lighting is needed without excessive glare. The PVC core provides shape retention without adding significant weight, and the fabric surface can be dusted with a soft brush attachment.

The Lucidia fits standard UK pendant lamp holders, table lamp harps, and floor lamp spider fittings. Check your existing lamp base or pendant fitting before ordering to confirm compatibility — most standard fittings use a universal spider or clip-on system.

Does the black fabric block all the light?

No. The white inner lining reflects light back through the bottom and top apertures. The black exterior controls the direction of the output, sending the majority of the light downwards with a small amount of upward spill, but it does not block the light entirely.

What bulb wattage can it handle?

PVC-core fabric shades typically handle bulbs up to 60W equivalent (around 10-12W LED). Avoid high-wattage halogen bulbs that generate excessive heat. LED bulbs in the 6-10W range are recommended for longevity and heat safety.

How is the fabric cleaned?

Dust the fabric regularly with a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner, or use a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid water or spray cleaners, as they can stain the fabric or weaken the adhesive bonding the fabric to the PVC core.
