Description
The Kinsale is a 1.93m black polymer lamp post with a six-sided lantern head housing a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately). Built from impact-resistant polymer rather than metal, the post and lantern head resist corrosion from salt spray, making this fitting particularly suited to coastal gardens, seafront properties and exposed locations where steel or aluminium fittings would degrade.
Designed for driveways, front gardens and pathway lighting where a traditional street-lantern aesthetic is wanted without the maintenance burden of cast iron or steel, the Kinsale mounts onto a flat surface via a hexagonal plinth base. The IP44 rating protects against rain and driven spray from all directions, though not submersion. The transparent polycarbonate diffusers around the lantern head allow the bulb to cast light in all directions, giving wide ground coverage of 3-5m diameter depending on bulb choice.
The polymer construction keeps the overall weight to approximately 4kg, low enough that a single installer can handle positioning and mounting. The black finish is moulded rather than painted, so chips and scratches do not expose a substrate layer that would corrode. The 60W maximum rating accepts standard LED, halogen or filament E27 bulbs, with most installations using a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb rated at 2700K-3000K for pathway and driveway visibility after dark.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Kinsale take?
The lamp post takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for pathway visibility and driveway lighting.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
Yes. The polymer construction resists corrosion from salt spray and coastal humidity, which would degrade metal lamp posts. The IP44 rating protects the internal wiring and lampholder from rain and driven spray. Elstead backs this with a 20-year warranty.
How is the lamp post mounted?
The hexagonal plinth base is bolted onto a flat surface such as a concrete pad, paving slab or timber deck. The electrical cable enters through the base and connects to the lampholder inside the lantern head. Installation requires basic electrical competence and outdoor wiring compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P.
What area does it light?
The transparent polycarbonate diffusers allow light to spread in all directions. A typical 8-10W LED bulb will cast visible ground coverage across a 3-5m diameter circle, sufficient for driveway edges, pathway junctions and front-garden features.
