Description

The Kendal is a wall-mounted outdoor lantern with a tapered rectangular frame in old bronze finish, housing two E14 candle bulb fittings behind clear seeded glass panels. The lantern measures approximately 380mm high by 210mm wide, with a hinged door on the front panel that opens to allow bulb replacement without removing the entire fitting from the wall.

Designed for porches, front door surrounds and garden walls, the Kendal carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered and semi-exposed positions around UK homes. The old bronze finish is a darkened, antiqued metal with subtle texture that shows minimal weathering over time. The seeded glass has a textured surface that softens the light output and reduces glare from the bare bulb filaments.

The two E14 bulbs (sold separately) sit vertically inside the lantern body, visible through all four glass panels. The hinged door latches closed with a simple hook mechanism and can be opened by hand when the bulbs need replacing, removing the need for tools or scaffold access for routine maintenance. The backplate fixes to standard exterior junction boxes and includes gasket sealing to prevent water ingress behind the fitting.

Is the Kendal suitable for exposed outdoor positions?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern is suitable for covered porches, door surrounds and wall positions under eaves or overhangs. For fully exposed positions with no overhead protection, a higher IP rating (IP65 or IP66) would be more appropriate.

What bulbs does it take?

The Kendal takes two E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, each up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional flame-effect appearance.

How do you change the bulbs?

The front glass panel is hinged and latches with a hook mechanism. Unhook the latch, swing the door open, replace the bulbs, and close the door. No tools or removal of the backplate are needed.

Does the old bronze finish weather over time?

Old bronze is a darkened, antiqued finish with some texture. It shows minimal weathering under normal UK outdoor conditions. Any light surface oxidation that develops over several years tends to enhance the aged appearance rather than detract from it.
