Our Italic Oak Sideboard brings quiet order to the room it sits in, giving you a low, steady place to store what you need while keeping the surface clear for the things you want on show. It works hard in a living room, hallway or dining space, holding tableware, books or table linen behind two reeded glass sliding doors that let the interior shelves read softly through the front. Standing on four round legs, it keeps a light footprint on the floor, so the piece feels open rather than heavy even at a generous 135cm wide.

The two sliding doors mean we can offer easy access without the swing space that hinged doors demand, which helps in narrower rooms or against a busy wall. Behind the glass, the shelves carry up to 15kg each when the weight is spread evenly, and the top surface takes up to 50kg the same way, so it will happily hold a lamp, a stack of plates or a run of framed photographs. At 73.4cm high and 48cm deep, it slots neatly beneath a window or against a longer wall, and at 51kg it stays firmly put once you have set it in place. We reckon on around 20 minutes to assemble.

It is made from solid oak, MDF, tempered glass and oak veneer, with the warm oak tone running across the frame and legs and the reeded glass giving a gentle ripple to the doors. To keep it looking its best, we suggest a soft dry cloth for the oak and a lightly damp one for the glass, drying straight after. Style it with a low bowl and a single tall stem, or keep it plain and let the grain do the talking. We think it earns its place quietly.
