The Hoop is an 8.5cm surface-mounted downlight with a matt black aluminium body and a brushed gold inner ring that frames the GX53 bulb aperture. The compact 5cm projection suits low ceilings and tight spaces where a recessed downlight is impractical or where the ceiling void is too shallow for a typical 100-120mm can fitting.

Designed for kitchens, hallways, bathrooms (IP20, zones outside splash areas) and commercial spaces needing task lighting without exposed bulbs, the Hoop fits directly onto the ceiling with a rear-mounted terminal block for mains connection. The GX53 bulb base is a low-profile twist-and-lock format common in European surface downlights, taking bulbs typically 15-20mm thick rather than the 50-60mm depth of a GU10. This keeps the overall fixture height below 30mm when the bulb is fitted.

The matt black finish on the outer cylinder contrasts with the brushed gold inner ring, giving the fitting a defined edge when viewed from below and adding warmth to the downward light spread. The Hoop takes a GX53 twist-and-lock bulb up to 15W. GX53 is a low-profile European downlight base with a diameter of 53mm and a typical bulb thickness of 15-20mm. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED GX53 between 7-11W and 2700K-3000K.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating confirms the Hoop is suitable for dry indoor areas only. It can be used in bathrooms outside the defined splash zones (typically zone 3 or beyond 2.25m from the edge of a bath or shower enclosure), but not directly above a bath or shower where an IP44 or IP65 rating is required by UK wiring regulations.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 5cm projection plus a typical GX53 bulb thickness of 15-20mm gives a combined drop of 65-70mm from the ceiling. This makes it suitable for standard 2.4m ceiling heights and lower ceilings where recessed downlights would intrude into the ceiling void or headroom below.

How is it wired?

The Hoop uses a rear-mounted terminal block for direct connection to 230V mains. Installation requires access to a ceiling junction box or existing ceiling rose position and must be carried out by a competent electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
