Description

The Hoop is an 11cm round recessed downlight with a GX53 bulb fitting, housed in a black aluminium and plastic body designed to sit flush with the ceiling surface. The fitting accepts GX53 twist-and-lock LED or CFL bulbs up to 15W (sold separately), with the bulb sitting behind a recessed inner ring that reduces glare and directs light downward.

Designed for hallways, kitchens, bathrooms (outside wet zones — IP20 rated), living rooms and commercial spaces where low-profile ceiling lighting is needed, the Hoop requires a ceiling void depth of at least 60mm for the body to recess. The fixed downlight casts a pool of light directly beneath the fitting, making it suitable for evenly spaced layouts where multiple downlights provide general illumination. The matt black finish blends with dark ceilings and creates a defined circular edge on white or light-coloured ceilings.

The aluminium outer ring provides structural rigidity and heat dissipation, while the plastic inner components keep the fitting lightweight at approximately 150g. The 53mm projection depth from ceiling to visible face means the downlight sits nearly flush once installed. Spring clips on the body grip the ceiling cutout edge, holding the fitting in place without visible screws or fixings from below. The GX53 base is a low-profile alternative to GU10, allowing slimmer ceiling voids to accommodate recessed lighting.

The fitting takes a GX53 twist-and-lock bulb up to 15W. GX53 bulbs are sold separately and are available in LED and CFL formats. Most users choose a warm-white LED GX53 between 7-11W and 2700K-3000K for general lighting.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 60mm ceiling void is required to accommodate the 53mm body depth plus wiring clearance. The fitting sits nearly flush with the ceiling surface once installed, projecting only the visible ring.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the Hoop can be used in bathrooms outside wet zones (Zone 0, 1, 2). It is suitable for general bathroom lighting away from showers, baths and basins where direct water contact occurs.

Is the downlight dimmable?

Dimming depends on the GX53 bulb installed. Some GX53 LED bulbs are dimmable, others are not. Check the bulb specification and ensure your dimmer switch is LED-compatible if dimming is required.
