Description
The Halmstad Medium is a 490mm galvanised steel bollard light with an opal polycarbonate diffuser and horizontal bar detailing around the light chamber. The bollard body measures 120mm square and stands on a buried base plate, with the E27 bulb holder positioned inside the upper lantern section behind seven horizontal metal bars. The galvanised silver finish is a protective zinc coating applied to the steel substrate for corrosion resistance in outdoor environments.
Designed for pathways, driveways, garden borders and courtyard perimeters, the 490mm height positions the light source below typical eye level while remaining visible above low planting. The IP65 rating protects the internal components against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making the bollard suitable for exposed positions including coastal installations. The E27 socket accepts any standard screw-in bulb up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose warm-white LED (2700K-3000K), daylight LED (4000K-5000K), or vintage filament styles depending on the required ambience.
The horizontal bar cage creates directional light distribution, with most output escaping through the gaps between bars to illuminate the ground directly below and around the bollard, while the bars themselves cast linear shadow patterns. The opal polycarbonate diffuser inside the cage softens the light source to reduce glare when the bollard is viewed from eye level. The galvanised finish develops a matte patina over time when exposed to weathering, shifting from bright silver towards a softer grey-silver tone. Norlys backs the Halmstad with an 8-year guarantee covering structural integrity and the galvanised coating.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The bollard takes a standard E27 screw-in bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for pathway lighting, or a 4000K daylight LED for security applications.
How is it installed?
The bollard is mounted on a buried base plate which must be set in concrete below ground level, with the electrical supply cable run underground to the base. A qualified electrician should complete the installation to ensure compliance with UK outdoor wiring regulations and the IP65 seal is not compromised.
Is the galvanised finish suitable for coastal areas?
Yes. The galvanised zinc coating provides corrosion protection in salt-air environments. The finish will develop a matte patina over time when exposed to coastal weathering, shifting from bright silver towards a softer grey-silver tone. The 8-year guarantee covers the galvanised coating.
What spacing is recommended for pathway lighting?
Spacing depends on the bulb wattage and required light levels. As a general guide, 3-4 metres between bollards provides continuous pathway illumination with a 6-10W LED bulb. Wider spacing of 5-6 metres works for decorative accent lighting where full illumination is not required.
