Description

The Gloara is an 80cm outdoor bollard light with a cylindrical brown powder-coated metal body and a white plastic diffuser at the head. The diffuser houses four G9 bulb fittings (bulbs sold separately) and directs light downward through a screened panel, providing focused illumination for pathways, driveways and garden borders without spill into neighbouring properties.

Designed for year-round outdoor installation in UK climates, the Gloara carries an IP44 rating, protecting the internal fittings from rain, garden sprinklers and dust ingress. The 80cm height positions the light source above typical border planting and low hedges, making the bollard suitable for longer driveways, garden perimeters and larger patio areas where shorter bollards would be lost among landscaping. The brown finish presents as a warm mid-tone that complements natural stone paving, timber decking and brick walls.

The 205mm diameter head gives the Gloara a substantial presence when viewed from a distance, and the powder-coated metal body resists corrosion from moisture and fertiliser exposure. The four-bulb configuration allows for total control over brightness by choosing lower-wattage G9 LEDs for subtle path marking or higher outputs for functional security lighting. The dimmable G9 fittings are compatible with most outdoor dimmer systems when paired with dimmable LED bulbs.

What bulbs does the Gloara take?

The bollard takes four G9 bulbs, sold separately. G9 LED bulbs are recommended for outdoor use due to their lower heat output and longer lifespan compared to halogen equivalents. Check the specification of your chosen bulb to confirm it is rated for outdoor or enclosed fittings.

Is it suitable for exposed coastal locations?

The IP44 rating protects against rain and garden irrigation but not sustained saltwater exposure. In coastal locations within 500m of the sea, the powder-coated metal may corrode faster than inland installations. For seafront properties, consider an IP65-rated bollard or apply a marine-grade protective coating during installation.

How is the Gloara installed?

The bollard requires a ground spike or concrete foundation depending on soil type and exposure. In firm soil a ground spike foundation is sufficient; in loose or sandy soil a concrete base is recommended. The electrical supply cable enters through the base of the bollard and should be protected by outdoor-rated conduit or armoured cable run underground at a minimum depth of 450mm.

Can it be used with a dimmer switch?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable G9 LED bulbs and use a dimmer rated for LED loads. Standard resistive dimmers designed for halogen or incandescent bulbs may cause flicker or limited dimming range with LED bulbs.
