Each arm terminates in an exposed E27 bulb fitting, allowing the bulb itself to become part of the visual composition.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 2.7m, the Gilbert sits just 22.7cm below the ceiling when installed, making it suitable for open-plan living spaces, dining rooms above large tables, and loft conversions where a full-drop pendant would hang too low. The angular arm arrangement spreads the light across a wide area without needing multiple separate fittings, covering typical 4m x 5m rooms with even distribution when paired with appropriate bulbs.

The matt black powder-coated steel frame absorbs light rather than reflecting it, keeping visual attention on the bulbs themselves rather than the metallic structure. The exposed bulb design works with vintage filament Edison bulbs (ST64 or G95 shapes), clear LED filament bulbs, or standard opal E27 bulbs depending on the lighting effect required. Each fitting takes up to 60W, though most installations use 6-8W LED bulbs to achieve 400-600 lumens per arm. The frame weighs approximately 3.2kg and fixes directly to a ceiling rose with a standard hook-and-chain ceiling plate.

What bulbs does it take?

The Gilbert takes eight E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use 6-8W warm-white LED bulbs to achieve the right brightness without excessive glare from the exposed bulb design.

What ceiling height is needed?

The fitting sits 22.7cm below the ceiling when installed. It works best in rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 2.7m, providing adequate clearance above head height in most domestic spaces. For ceiling heights below 2.4m, consider a lower-profile flush fitting.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

No. The Gilbert is designed for horizontal ceiling installation only. The angular arms are configured for a level ceiling and will not hang correctly on a sloped or vaulted ceiling.

What size room does it suit?

The 87cm x 59cm footprint and 8-bulb spread suit rooms between 16-25m² (roughly 4m x 5m to 5m x 5m). Smaller rooms may find the fitting visually dominant; larger rooms may need supplementary lighting for even coverage.
