Description

The Gentry is a 290mm semi-flush ceiling light built around a cylindrical frame of curved clear glass panels, finished in pewter with three E14 candle bulb fittings arranged in the centre. The 244mm drop positions the light close to the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with standard 2.4m ceiling heights where a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for hallways, landings, low-ceiling bedrooms and kitchens with ceiling heights of 2.4-2.7m, the Gentry provides ambient lighting without occupying the headroom a pendant requires. The curved glass panels are held in a metal frame with a pewter finish — a mid-tone grey-silver that sits between polished chrome and antique pewter, working with both warm and cool-toned interiors. The three candle-style bulb fittings sit on pewter sleeves inside the glass cylinder, with the glass acting as both protection and diffuser.

The cylindrical glass enclosure measures 290mm in diameter and houses three E14 bulbs (sold separately), each rated up to 40W. Most users pair this with 4-6W warm-white LED candle bulbs to achieve 300-450 lumens total output, which suits a 10-12m² hallway or landing. The glass is clear rather than frosted, so the bulb filaments remain visible — decorative LED filament candle bulbs work particularly well if you want the look of traditional candles without the heat or flicker. The fitting mounts directly to a standard UK ceiling rose and the glass cylinder removes for bulb changes by releasing a bottom finial.

The Gentry takes three E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, each up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W warm-white LED candle bulbs for a combined 300-450 lumens.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 244mm drop from ceiling to base makes it suitable for standard 2.4m ceiling heights, where it will sit approximately 2.15m above floor level once fitted, well above head height in most rooms.

How is the glass removed for bulb changes?

The glass cylinder is held by a finial at the base. Unscrew the bottom finial to lower the glass cylinder and access the bulb fittings, then replace the glass and re-tighten the finial once bulbs are changed.

Is the finish polished or brushed?

The pewter finish is a mid-tone satin grey-silver, neither highly polished nor heavily brushed. It sits visually between bright chrome and darker antique pewter, with a subtle low-sheen surface that minimises reflections.
