Description
The Gemma is a 419mm diameter flush ceiling light built around vertical prisms of amber pearl and clear crystal, set within a cylindrical vintage bronze frame. Three E27 bulbs inside the drum cast light through the crystal prisms and outward through the frosted glass diffuser on the bottom, creating both decorative sparkle and functional ambient light. The 235mm fitting height positions the entire assembly close to the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m.
Designed for entrance halls, bedrooms, and dining areas where ceiling clearance is limited but decorative impact is needed, the Gemma pairs flush-mount practicality with the visual depth of crystal suspension lights. The vertical arrangement of the prisms forms a cylindrical cage that wraps around the bulbs, so light refracts through the crystal from multiple angles. The frosted glass base plate diffuses downward light and prevents glare when the fitting is viewed from below.
The vintage bronze finish on the metal frame shows a warmer, darker patina than polished or antique brass, sitting between brown and gunmetal in tone. The amber pearl prisms add warmth to the light output, while the clear crystal prisms introduce refraction and sparkle. The combination of both crystal types in alternating vertical strips gives the fitting more visual texture than single-material designs. At 419mm diameter, the Gemma suits rooms from 12-18m² without overwhelming smaller spaces or disappearing in larger ones.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Gemma take?
The fitting takes three E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each rated up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to complement the amber pearl prisms and vintage bronze finish.
Is it suitable for low ceilings?
Yes. The 235mm fitting height makes the Gemma one of the more suitable options for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m, including standard UK new-build bedrooms and flats where pendant drops would hang too low.
How is the light distributed?
Light passes through the vertical crystal prisms around the sides, creating decorative sparkle, and through the frosted glass diffuser on the base, providing ambient downlight. The combination gives both decorative and functional illumination rather than purely task light.
What's the difference between amber pearl and clear crystal prisms?
The amber pearl prisms add a warm tonal cast to the light passing through them, while the clear crystal prisms refract light without adding colour. The Gemma alternates both types in vertical strips, creating variation in how light behaves around the drum.
