Description
The Freeport is a 301mm tall outdoor wall lantern from Hinkley with a cylindrical lantern cage built around seeded clear glass panels, finished in textured black and mounted on a rectangular wall plate. The lantern cage is divided into three horizontal tiers by horizontal framing bars, with vertical bars creating a grid pattern around the circumference. A single E27 bulb sits inside the glass enclosure (sold separately), with light diffusing through the seeded glass texture to create a soft, speckled glow.
Designed for front door entrances, porch walls, garage sides and garden pathways, the Freeport provides functional outdoor lighting with an IP44 weather rating suitable for UK rain and damp conditions. The 232mm projection from the wall clears most door frames and porches, while the 207mm width and circular footprint suit standard single-storey and two-storey residential facades. The E27 fitting accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 40W, allowing flexibility to choose light temperature and energy consumption to suit the application.
The textured black finish is powder-coated onto a weather-resistant composite body that resists fading and corrosion better than painted metal in coastal and wet climates. The seeded glass has a bubble-and-ripple texture that conceals the bulb shape when viewed from typical sight lines, avoiding the harsh point-source glare of clear flat glass. The lantern ships with a rectangular backplate with pre-drilled fixing points and an integrated cable entry grommet for standard UK outdoor wiring. Hinkley provides a 5-year manufacturer guarantee covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean?
IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashed from any direction. This makes it suitable for UK outdoor use in rain and damp conditions, but it should not be installed where it will be directly hosed down or submerged. Typical mounting positions include covered porches, under eaves, or on exposed walls where rainwater runs off rather than pooling.
What bulb does it take?
The Freeport takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb (2700K-3000K) for energy-efficient outdoor lighting that matches traditional porch lighting colour.
Can the seeded glass be replaced if damaged?
The lantern cage is a sealed unit with the seeded glass panels set into the frame. Hinkley may supply replacement glass assemblies for this model — contact us for availability and pricing if a panel is cracked or broken.
What fixing method is used?
The rectangular backplate has pre-drilled fixing holes for screw mounting to masonry, timber or cladding. Use appropriate wall plugs and fixings for the wall type. Cable entry is via a rear grommet, allowing standard UK outdoor cable to be run from a weatherproof junction box or cavity behind the wall.
