Freeport 1 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Black Seeded Glass

The Freeport is a single-light outdoor wall lantern built around a cylindrical cage with seeded glass panels, topped with a wide conical cap and mounted on a rectangular black backplate. The fixture stands 389mm tall with a 257mm diameter cage and projects 288mm from the wall on an angled arm. A single E27 bulb inside the seeded glass cage (sold separately, up to 60W) produces light that diffuses through the textured glass and vertical metal ribs.

Designed for entrance porches, beside front doors, and on garage walls where overhead lighting is needed, the Freeport carries an IP44 rating making it suitable for locations sheltered from direct rainfall. The 389mm height gives the lantern presence on a typical two-storey house facade without overwhelming narrow door surrounds. The fixture mounts via a standard rectangular backplate with two fixing points, suitable for brick, render or weatherboarded surfaces.

The black finish is applied to a weather-resistant composite material that resists corrosion and UV degradation better than painted steel in coastal or high-humidity environments. The seeded glass panels show fine air bubbles throughout the material, giving texture when unlit and creating a softer spread of light when the bulb is on compared to clear glass. The vertical ribs dividing the glass into panels echo traditional New England maritime lantern design while the wide cap prevents rain entering the top of the fixture.

What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and against water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, and beside doors where it receives shelter from direct rainfall, but not for fully exposed positions like open garden walls.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for entrance lighting. The seeded glass diffuses the light, so there is no need for an opal or frosted bulb to avoid glare.

How far does it stick out from the wall?

The fixture projects 288mm from the wall surface to the front of the glass cage. Allow clearance if the lantern will sit beside a door that opens outward or near a narrow pathway.
