Description

At 45cm across and 21.8cm tall, our medium Faraday pendant lampshade fills a space without dominating it, which makes it a sensible choice for those of us working with rooms where a wider shade would sit too low or read too heavy. The wide, flattened form spreads the fitting across a good stretch of ceiling, so it settles well above a dining table or kitchen island where you want the light drawn outwards rather than pooled in one spot. It weighs 1.6kg, and we find that lightness reassuring when it comes to hanging it from a standard ceiling point.

The shade is built from fine metal mesh with a visible band running round the middle, so the surface is open and worked rather than solid or smooth. In brass, the mesh warms the light as it passes through, throwing a softer, dappled cast than a closed shade would give, and letting a little of the glow escape sideways too. We like how the mesh keeps the piece from feeling bulky despite its width, and the central band gives the eye something to settle on. Made from steel and glass, it is finished for indoor use and carries the CE marking, so you can be confident it has been tested for the room it belongs in.
