Description
The Cidal is a 36W UV-C germicidal lamp built around a vertical cylindrical tube emitting 253.7nm ultraviolet C light, mounted on a black tripod base. The UV-C output disrupts DNA and RNA structures in bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce. The lamp sits 458mm tall when assembled and the cylindrical tube is surrounded by a protective wire guard to prevent accidental contact during operation.
Designed for sanitation in medical consulting rooms, dental surgeries, laboratories, veterinary practices and controlled commercial environments, the Cidal runs in unoccupied spaces only — UV-C light at this intensity is harmful to human skin and eyes and must not be operated when people or animals are present. The 360° cylindrical tube configuration provides omnidirectional coverage, sterilising exposed surfaces within the line of sight of the lamp. Typical use involves positioning the lamp in the centre of a vacated room, running it for a timed cycle (duration depends on room volume and surface types), then switching off and ventilating before re-entry.
The tripod base gives stability on hard floors and folds for transport between rooms. The black powder-coated metal frame and wire guard provide durability in repeated use environments. The lamp weighs 1kg including the base, making it portable enough to move between treatment rooms or lab benches. The 36W rating refers to the UV-C tube power consumption rather than visible light output — this is a germicidal tool, not an ambient light source.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used with people in the room?
No. UV-C light at 253.7nm is harmful to human skin and eyes and can cause burns and corneal damage with brief exposure. The Cidal must only be operated in completely unoccupied spaces. Remove all people, pets and plants before switching on, and do not re-enter until the lamp has been switched off and the room ventilated.
How long does a sterilisation cycle take?
Cycle duration depends on room volume, surface types and the level of sterilisation required. A typical small consulting room (12-15m²) may need 15-30 minutes of exposure for surface sterilisation. Always follow your organisation's infection control protocols and the manufacturer's guidance for specific applications.
What surfaces can it sterilise?
UV-C light sterilises exposed surfaces within direct line of sight of the lamp — it does not penetrate into shadowed areas, inside drawers, or behind objects. Hard non-porous surfaces (metal, glass, sealed plastic) respond well. Porous or textured surfaces may require longer exposure or supplementary cleaning methods.
Does the UV-C tube need replacing?
Yes. UV-C tubes degrade over time and lose germicidal effectiveness even when still producing visible light. Most UV-C tubes require replacement after 8,000-10,000 hours of use, or annually in high-use environments. Check the tube manufacturer's specification for replacement intervals.
