Description

This outdoor box lantern has a classic, square shape in a smart matt black finish, with an integrated PIR sensor that switches the light on automatically when movement is detected and off again shortly after. It is made from matt black painted, corrosion-resistant stainless steel with clear bevelled-edge glass panels that give a crisp, traditional look. The sensor has a wide detection angle of around 110 degrees and a useful range, with an adjustable timer and light-level setting so you can tune how and when it responds. It takes a single E27 bulb, ideally a filament LED lamp for a warm glow.

The Castwood suits front doors, driveways, side passages and garden walls where you want light to greet you as you approach and help with security when the house is empty. Because the switching is automatic, you are not reaching for a switch with your hands full, and the light only runs when it is needed. Made for exterior use, it is built from corrosion-resistant steel to cope with British weather on an exposed wall, and as a Class 1 fitting it must be earthed and installed by a qualified electrician onto a suitable outdoor supply.

Keep the sensor lens and bevelled glass clean with a soft, damp cloth so movement is detected reliably, and clear away cobwebs or leaves that might trigger it. Wipe the matt black steel occasionally to remove salt and dust, and check the fixings from time to time.
