Description
The Cambridge is a 580mm-diameter pendant lantern with three E14 candle fittings inside a clear optic glass bowl, suspended from a burnished brass frame with cast detail on the canopy, central urn finial and scrolled arms. The glass is moulded with vertical ribbing that catches and refracts light outward when the bulbs are lit, while the solid brass components carry decorative beading and turned details characteristic of American colonial-revival design.
Designed for entrance halls, stairwells and dining rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Cambridge provides ambient light through all sides of the glass bowl rather than directing it downward. The 1067mm body height plus chain gives a minimum drop of 1240mm from ceiling to base, adjustable up to 4250mm on installation to suit double-height spaces or landings. The three-light configuration spreads illumination evenly inside the glass without creating harsh shadows.
The burnished brass finish has a warmer, slightly antiqued tone compared to polished brass, with less reflectivity and a surface patina that ages naturally over time. Each brass component is solid cast rather than stamped, giving the scrollwork, urn and canopy rim a three-dimensional weight. The optic glass bowl is hand-blown, so slight variation in rib depth and clarity between individual pieces is normal. At 580mm diameter the lantern suits rooms with floor areas of 15-25m² without overwhelming the space.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Cambridge take?
Three E14 candle bulbs up to 60W each, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional look without the heat output of halogen.
What ceiling height is needed?
The minimum drop from ceiling to base is 1240mm. For a typical entrance hall or dining room, ceiling heights of 2.7m or above work well. Double-height spaces and stairwells can use the full 4250mm adjustable drop by extending the chain on installation.
Is the burnished brass finish lacquered?
Hinkley burnished brass typically carries a protective lacquer to slow natural tarnishing, but the finish will develop a deeper patina over years of exposure to air. This is a feature of solid brass rather than a defect.
Can the glass bowl be removed for cleaning?
Yes. The optic glass bowl is held by a threaded brass collar at the base. Unscrew the collar to remove the glass for cleaning or bulb replacement, then re-thread to secure. Clean the glass with warm water and a soft cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners that might scratch the ribbed surface.
