Description

The Boden is an outdoor wall light with a matt black rectangular frame, frosted glass diffuser and four horizontal steel bands across the outer face. The fitting carries an IP54 rating for protection against dust ingress and water splashes, making it suitable for covered and semi-exposed positions including front porches, rear patios, and under eaves.

The light mounts flat to the wall via a rectangular backplate and projects 102mm from the wall surface once installed. The frosted glass panel diffuses light from the single E27 bulb (sold separately) across a wider area, reducing glare and casting a softer wash onto adjacent walls and pathways. The horizontal steel bands add visual texture and break up the light output into layered bands rather than a single uniform glow.

At 310mm tall and 159mm wide, the Boden suits standard door frames, garage entrances and garden gates without overwhelming smaller walls. The matt black finish resists visible weathering better than gloss coatings and pairs with both traditional brick facades and contemporary render or cladding. The fitting accepts any E27 bulb up to 60W, including dimmable LEDs if paired with a compatible outdoor dimmer circuit.

What does the IP54 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP54 provides protection against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. The Boden is suitable for covered positions such as under eaves, porches and soffits. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or submersion, so avoid mounting in locations with no overhead protection.

What bulb should I use?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting. The frosted glass diffuses the light regardless of bulb type.

Can it be dimmed?

Dimming depends on the bulb and the circuit. If you install a dimmable E27 LED and connect the fitting to an outdoor-rated dimmer switch, the light output can be adjusted. The fitting itself has no built-in dimming mechanism.

How is it mounted?

The Boden mounts via a rectangular backplate fixed to the wall with screws. The electrical cable is fed through the backplate before the main body is attached. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, particularly for outdoor circuits.
