Blue Traditional Porcelain Table Lamp - Blue & White

This traditional table lamp pairs a 390mm-tall porcelain vase base with hand-painted blue and white Chinese landscape motifs with a 460mm-wide cream empire shade and a dark wood plinth. The porcelain base shows a continuous scene of pagodas, bridges, trees and mountainous landscapes in blue brushwork on a cream glaze, finished with decorative bands at the neck and foot. An E27 lampholder sits inside the shade, accepting bulbs up to 60W (sold separately).

Designed for side tables, console tables and bedroom nightstands where decorative accent lighting is needed, the lamp stands 730mm tall overall with the shade fitted. The 460mm shade diameter needs a table surface at least 500mm wide to avoid overhang. The polycotton empire shade diffuses light evenly, softening the output for ambient rather than task lighting. The wooden plinth base gives stability and lifts the porcelain away from the table surface.

The porcelain base is finished with a high-gloss glaze that reflects ambient light during the day, while the blue and white palette pairs with both warm wood furniture and cooler contemporary schemes. The satin nickel finial at the top of the shade adds a subtle metallic accent without competing with the porcelain decoration. The cream shade fabric is washable, though care should be taken to avoid soaking the internal wire frame.

What bulb does it take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for ambient lighting in living rooms or bedrooms.

Is the porcelain base fragile?

The porcelain is glazed ceramic with a wooden plinth for stability, making it more robust than unglazed pottery. Handle with care when moving and avoid knocking the base against hard surfaces. The glaze is scratch-resistant under normal use.

The 460mm shade diameter requires a table surface at least 500mm wide to avoid overhang. The lamp works well on console tables, side tables next to sofas or armchairs, and bedroom nightstands with adequate surface area.

Can the shade be cleaned?

The polycotton shade can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent. For deeper cleaning, the shade can be removed from the frame and hand-washed in cool water, but avoid soaking the wire frame or seams. Air-dry fully before refitting.
