Description

This ginger jar table lamp pairs a hand-painted blue and white porcelain base with a cream polycotton empire shade, standing 570mm tall with a 360mm diameter shade. The ceramic base features a traditional Chinese floral pattern of intertwined chrysanthemums and vines painted in cobalt blue on a white glazed ground, with a geometric Greek key border at the neck and a scalloped pattern at the foot.

Designed for traditional and transitional interiors, the lamp suits living room side tables, bedroom nightstands, console tables in entrance halls, and anywhere a decorative table lamp with moderate height is needed. The single E27 bulb fitting inside the shade casts diffused ambient light downwards and outwards through the polycotton fabric. A solid wooden plinth base supports the porcelain jar, adding stability and visual grounding to the ceramic form.

The base stands 290mm tall before the shade assembly, with the porcelain jar presenting as a classic temple jar profile — wide shoulder tapering to a narrower neck. The hand-painted decoration means each base shows slight variation in brushwork and cobalt saturation, typical of artisan ceramic production. The satin nickel finial at the shade crown provides a tonal contrast to the warm cream fabric and the cool blue-white ceramic below.

What bulb does it take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb, maximum 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most buyers pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient room lighting.

Is the porcelain base fragile?

The base is glazed ceramic, which is durable under normal use but will chip or crack if dropped or knocked forcefully. The wooden plinth gives stability, but the lamp should be positioned away from high-traffic areas or where it might be bumped regularly.

Can the shade be replaced?

Yes. The polycotton empire shade fits a standard lamp harp and can be replaced with any shade that accepts the same fitting. The shade diameter is 360mm at the base, tapering to approximately 200mm at the crown.

How is the ceramic cleaned?

Wipe the glazed porcelain base gently with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the glaze or damage the painted decoration. The polycotton shade can be dusted with a soft brush or lint roller.
