Description

The Berlin is a 270mm circular outdoor wall light with a black metal eyelid cover, a protective mid-band and a domed opal polycarbonate shade. An E27 bulb (sold separately, maximum 60W) sits inside the shade, casting light both forward through the opal diffuser and downward through a halo lens at the base that washes the wall below with ambient light.

Designed for exterior wall mounting on house facades, garage walls, porch entries and garden pathways, the Berlin carries an IP54 rating for protection against dust and splashing water from any direction. The eyelid cover above the shade shields the lamp from direct rain while allowing the light to spread outward and downward, making the fitting suitable for positions without deep eaves or canopy cover.

The black powder-coated metal frame and polycarbonate shade resist UV degradation and weathering over years of outdoor exposure. The 140mm projection from the wall and the 270mm diameter suit external walls with brick, render or timber cladding where a visible presence is needed for both safety lighting and architectural accent. What does the IP54 rating mean?

IP54 indicates protection against dust ingress (limited but not complete, rated '5') and protection against splashing water from any direction (rated '4'). The Berlin can be mounted in exposed positions without shelter, but is not suitable for direct immersion or high-pressure water jets.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair the Berlin with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for energy efficiency and long service life outdoors.

Does it need to be wired by a qualified electrician?

Yes. External lighting connects to mains 230V wiring and must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations. The fitting should be isolated at the consumer unit before installation.

Can it be mounted on a rendered wall?

Yes. The circular back plate fixes to the wall using screws into appropriate fixings for the substrate (wall plugs for brick/block, specialist fixings for render over insulation). Ensure the fixing points are solid and the cable entry is sealed to prevent water ingress behind the fitting.
