Description

The Bedford is a 178mm outdoor chain pendant built from black composite with clear seedy glass panels on four sides and a single E27 bulb fitting inside. The composite body is temperature-stable from -20°C to +40°C and carries an IP44 rating, meaning it resists rain ingress and moisture when ceiling-mounted under a porch, canopy or gazebo roof.

Designed for covered outdoor positions rather than fully exposed locations, the Bedford suits porch entries, covered pathways, gazebo centres and veranda seating areas where overhead shelter exists but ambient moisture and temperature swings are still present. The chain drop is adjustable between 479mm and 2451mm on installation, allowing the pendant to hang 400-600mm below a typical 2.4m porch ceiling or lower for taller structures. The lantern body itself stands 314mm high.

The seedy glass panels have a textured, bubble-patterned surface that scatters light from the E27 bulb inside, softening glare and casting patterned shadows onto surrounding surfaces. The black composite finish is moulded rather than painted, so chips and scratches expose the same black material rather than a contrasting substrate. The fitting accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving control over light temperature and brightness to suit the mood of the space.

Can the Bedford be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?

The IP44 rating protects against rain ingress when the pendant is ceiling-mounted under a porch, canopy or gazebo roof. It is not rated for fully exposed positions where rain can drive horizontally or upwards into the fitting. Use under overhead shelter only.

What bulb does it take?

The Bedford takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for outdoor ambiance.

How is the drop adjusted?

The chain and cable are adjustable during installation by shortening the chain links and looping excess cable into the ceiling canopy. Once fitted the drop is fixed until the pendant is taken down and re-installed.

Is the black finish painted or moulded?

The black colour is part of the composite material itself, not a surface coating. Chips or scratches expose the same black substrate rather than a contrasting base colour, making wear less visible over time.
