Description

The Beacon Touchscreen Expander Panel adds 8 additional lines to an existing BMNET nurse call network, allowing a system to scale beyond the capacity of the base touchscreen controller. The panel integrates assist call points, Type A call points (pull cords) and Type B outstations (reassurance units) across the expanded network, routing all signals back to the central touchscreen interface.

Designed for healthcare, care home and assisted living installations where the building layout or bed count exceeds a single 8-line controller, the expander panel connects to the BMNET network via a simple daisy-chain topology. Each expander adds capacity for another 8 rooms, zones or call points, with multiple expanders supported on the same network depending on system requirements. The panel fits a standard electrical enclosure and requires 230V mains power plus an optional backup battery (BAT7, sold separately) for continuous operation during power outages.

The metal enclosure measures 345mm wide by 265mm deep by 150mm high and weighs 2.5kg net. The front panel carries diagnostic LEDs numbered 1-8 corresponding to each line, plus mode indicators and status symbols. The unit is fully compliant to BS5839-9:2021 (fire alarm systems for buildings — code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency voice communication systems) and BS8300 (design of an accessible and inclusive built environment), meeting UK requirements for nurse call and emergency voice communication systems in care settings.

Frequently Asked

How many expander panels can be added to one BMNET network?

The maximum number of expander panels depends on the base controller model and the total number of outstations on the network. Refer to the full system manual (linked in Downloads) for network topology limits, or contact ESP technical support for system design guidance.

Does the expander panel need a backup battery?

The panel supports a backup battery (ESP BAT7, sold separately) to maintain operation during mains power failure. Whether this is required depends on the specific compliance requirements of the installation — BS5839-9:2021 mandates backup power for emergency voice communication systems in most care environments.

What call point types does it support?

The expander integrates assist call points, Type A call points (typically ceiling-mounted pull cords in bathrooms and bedrooms) and Type B outstations (reassurance units with reset buttons). All call types route to the central touchscreen controller for monitoring and acknowledgement.

Is this compatible with non-BMNET nurse call systems?

No. The expander panel is designed specifically for ESP Beacon BMNET networks and uses proprietary signalling protocols. It will not integrate with third-party nurse call systems or legacy ESP models outside the BMNET range.
