Beacon Hill 1 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Museum Black

The Beacon Hill is a 457mm outdoor wall lantern built around a tapered aluminium frame finished in Museum Black, with four seeded glass panels surrounding a single E27 bulb fitting. The lantern draws from English coach lamp design, with a stepped rectangular body, a curved top mount bracket, and a decorative yoke detail at the canopy. The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust, making it suitable for exposed positions on exterior walls.

Designed for front doors, porches, garage side doors and courtyard walls, the Beacon Hill provides downward and outward light distribution through the heavily seeded glass, which diffuses the bulb filament while maintaining visibility of the light source for traditional lantern character. The 180mm projection from the wall gives clearance for taller door frames and allows the lantern to cast light outward rather than straight down. The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose LED, halogen or filament bulbs depending on the desired light temperature and output.

The Museum Black finish is a semi-matt powder coat that reads darker than standard black in daylight but shows tonal variation under artificial light, with subtle charcoal undertones that soften the metal's appearance against rendered, brick or painted exterior walls. The aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments without the weight or maintenance burden of cast iron or steel. What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-8W warm-white LED filament bulb at 2700K to match the traditional lantern aesthetic while keeping running costs low.

Can it be used in exposed positions?

Yes. The IP44 rating provides protection against rain and dust, making the Beacon Hill suitable for exposed front doors, courtyard walls and porch positions. The aluminium frame and sealed glass panels resist corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments.

How is the lantern mounted?

The lantern mounts to a standard UK outdoor back box via a curved bracket at the top of the frame. The bracket allows the lantern to sit 180mm proud of the wall, with the electrical connection concealed inside the top canopy section.

What is seeded glass?

Seeded glass contains deliberately introduced air bubbles and texture cast into the glass during manufacture. This diffuses the light source and adds visual texture to the lantern when lit, while still allowing the bulb filament to be partially visible for traditional character.
