Description

The Basic Form is a 20cm frosted opal glass globe wall light mounted on a matt black metal backplate. The single E14 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately, max 40W) sits inside the globe, with the frosted glass diffusing the light output in all directions to create ambient rather than directional illumination.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms outside shower zones (IP20 rating), the globe projects approximately 23cm from the wall when fitted, placing the light source clear of the mounting surface. The 20cm diameter globe provides enough light spread for corridor lighting at 2-3m intervals, or as bedside wall lights flanking a headboard. The matt black backplate has a low-sheen powder-coat finish that resists fingerprints and sits flush to the wall once installed.

The frosted opal glass is a solid milk-white colour when unlit, turning translucent when the bulb is switched on. The globe is held by a threaded collar on the backplate, allowing it to be removed for bulb changes without removing the entire fitting from the wall. The metal construction and glass globe together weigh approximately 0.8kg, suitable for plasterboard walls with standard cavity fixings or masonry walls with wall plugs.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a single E14 (small Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for ambient hallway or bedroom lighting.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means it can be used in bathrooms outside shower zones (typically Zone 3 or beyond, more than 60cm from taps and showerheads). It is not suitable for direct splashing or high-humidity zones.

How is the globe removed for bulb changes?

The frosted glass globe is held by a threaded collar on the backplate. Unscrew the collar anticlockwise to remove the globe, change the bulb, then replace and tighten the collar. The fitting does not need to be removed from the wall.

What projection does it have from the wall?

The globe projects approximately 23cm from the wall when fitted, placing the front surface of the glass 23cm clear of the mounting surface. This makes it unsuitable for very narrow hallways where head clearance is limited.
