The Barras is a compact outdoor wall lantern with a cylindrical ribbed clear glass shade enclosed in a matt black metal frame, mounting on a black rectangular backplate. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb up to 40W (sold separately) and sits 290mm tall by 137mm wide, with a 157mm projection from the wall. The ribbed glass diffuses light vertically and horizontally, softening the output from a bare filament or LED bulb.

Designed for porches, pathways, front doors and side passages where headroom is limited or where lights are installed in pairs flanking an entrance, the Barras provides functional outdoor illumination in a form drawn from early-electric-era lantern design. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against splashing water and airborne dust, making it suitable for UK weather conditions in covered and semi-exposed locations. The 157mm projection clears most door frames and keeps the glass clear of walls on narrow side passages.

The ribbed glass pattern runs vertically inside a cylindrical cage formed by vertical metal ribs connecting the top and bottom rings of the frame. When lit, the ribbing creates alternating bands of light and shadow that add texture to entrance walls and pathways. The matt black finish on the metalwork minimises reflections at night and pairs with black door furniture, downpipes and window frames common on both period and contemporary UK properties.

Is this suitable for a front door under a porch roof?

Yes. The IP44 rating provides protection against rain splash and dust, making the Barras suitable for covered porches, door canopies and recessed entrances. For fully exposed locations without overhead cover, an IP65-rated fitting is more appropriate.

What bulb does it take?

The Barras takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-6W and 2200K-2700K to complement the early-electric styling and ribbed glass.

Can two be mounted symmetrically either side of a door?

Yes. The compact 290mm height and 137mm width make the Barras well-suited to symmetrical pairing flanking front doors, garage doors or gate pillars. The 157mm projection keeps the glass clear of door frames on typical UK residential doorways.

How is the glass cleaned?

The ribbed clear glass can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and glass cleaner once the bulb is removed and the fitting is switched off. Access the glass by removing the top cap — consult the fitting instructions for disassembly guidance specific to this model.
