The Balbo is a 38cm semi-flush ceiling light with fifteen smoky glass spheres clustered around four G9 bulb fittings on a polished nickel frame. The fitting sits 22.5cm below the ceiling rose, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.6m where a full pendant would hang too low. Each of the four G9 bulbs (sold separately) lights multiple glass spheres, creating overlapping pools of diffused warm light across the cluster.

Designed for hallways, landings, dining rooms and bedrooms with standard UK ceiling heights, the Balbo provides ambient light without the visual weight of a chandelier or the projection of a traditional flush fitting. The semi-flush design keeps the bulk of the fitting close to the ceiling while the spheres extend downward to break up the silhouette. The polished nickel frame reflects light between the glass spheres, adding brightness without glare.

The smoky glass has a translucent grey tint that softens the light output and creates a tonal contrast against the bright nickel metalwork. Each sphere is approximately 10cm in diameter, hand-blown with slight variation in the smoke density between individual pieces. The combined metal frame and glass spheres give the fitting a presence that works in 3-4m rooms without dominating smaller 2.5-3m spaces. The nickel finish pairs with cooler-toned interiors, greys, and monochrome schemes.

What bulbs does it take?

The Balbo takes four G9 bulbs with a maximum 28W combined load (approximately 7W per bulb). G9 bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this fitting with 3-4W LED G9 bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for ambient lighting.

What ceiling height is needed?

The fitting sits 22.5cm below the ceiling rose with a 38cm diameter spread. It works best in rooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.6m, where a full pendant would hang too low but a flush fitting would lack visual interest.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means this fitting is not rated for bathroom zones. It is designed for dry interior rooms only — hallways, dining rooms, bedrooms and living rooms.

How is the glass cleaned?

Switch off at the mains before cleaning. Wipe each smoky glass sphere with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or stubborn marks, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water, then dry immediately. Avoid sprays or chemical cleaners that can leave residue on the glass or corrode the nickel frame.
