Description

The AV:Link Scart to HDMI converter takes analogue video signals from a Scart output and converts them to digital HDMI at either 720p or 1080p resolution, selected via a switch on the unit. The converter accepts PAL, NTSC 3.58/4.43, SECAM, PAL/M and PAL/N input formats, allowing it to work with video equipment from different regions and broadcast standards.

Designed for connecting older VCRs, DVD players, set-top boxes and games consoles to modern HDMI televisions and monitors, the converter bridges the analogue-to-digital gap without requiring the source device to have component or composite outputs. The unit is powered by USB via the included cable, which can run from a TV's USB port, a mains USB adapter, or a powered USB hub. Maximum supported cable lengths are 8m on the Scart input side and 7m on the HDMI output side before signal degradation becomes a risk.

The compact 88.5 x 57.5 x 25mm casing sits between devices without occupying significant shelf or cabinet space, and the 60g weight means it can be cable-suspended if the source device sits on a higher shelf. The unit draws a maximum of 350mA at 5V DC during operation, well within the capacity of most TV USB ports rated at 500mA or above. No driver installation or configuration software is needed — connect the cables, select the output resolution, and the converter begins passing video and audio immediately.

Frequently Asked

Does it convert audio as well as video?

Yes. The Scart connection carries both video and stereo audio, and both are converted and passed through the HDMI output to the display device.

Can I power it from the TV's USB port?

Most modern TVs provide 500mA or more from their USB ports, which is sufficient for the converter's 350mA maximum draw. If the TV's USB port is rated lower or powers off when the TV is in standby, use a mains USB adapter instead.

What's the difference between 720p and 1080p output?

720p outputs at 1280 x 720 resolution, 1080p at 1920 x 1080. The source Scart signal is analogue and lower resolution than either, so the converter upscales the image. Use 1080p if your display is Full HD or above; use 720p for older HD Ready displays or if the image appears over-processed at 1080p.

Will it work with NTSC video from non-UK sources?

Yes. The converter supports NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43, SECAM, PAL/M and PAL/N in addition to standard PAL, so it handles video from North American, French and other regional broadcast standards.
