Description
The Atom is an 8.5cm diameter surface mounted downlight built from white powder-coated aluminium, housing a single GU10 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately). The fitting sits 11.5cm proud of the ceiling and incorporates a 25° swivel mechanism that allows the light direction to be adjusted after installation, directing the beam onto walls, worktops or specific zones within a room.
Designed for rooms where recessed downlights cannot be installed due to shallow ceiling voids or concrete construction, the Atom provides downward task lighting without the need to cut into the ceiling structure. The surface mount design suits hallways, kitchens, bathrooms (dry zones only — IP20 rating), bedrooms and commercial spaces where ceiling access is limited. The white finish blends into white or light-toned ceilings, minimising visual intrusion when the light is off.
The aluminium body keeps the weight low at approximately 200g per fitting, allowing multiple units to be installed on plasterboard ceilings without additional support. The GU10 base accepts LED, halogen or energy-saving GU10 bulbs up to 50W, giving flexibility to choose beam angle, colour temperature and brightness according to the application. The 25° swivel range allows fine adjustment of the beam direction once the fitting is wired and mounted, without needing to reposition the entire unit.

Frequently Asked
Does the Atom come with a bulb?
No. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 50W maximum. Most users pair this with a 5-7W LED GU10 in 3000K or 4000K depending on the room application.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the Atom is suitable for dry areas only. It can be used in bathrooms outside the defined shower or bath zones (typically zone 3 and beyond), but not directly above baths, showers or basins where water spray may reach the fitting.
How is the swivel mechanism adjusted?
Once the fitting is installed and powered, the inner ring containing the GU10 socket can be tilted by hand within a 25° range. This allows the beam direction to be fine-tuned without rewiring or repositioning the base plate.
What ceiling fixing is needed?
The base plate fixes to the ceiling with two screws into a standard UK ceiling rose or mounting bracket. On plasterboard ceilings, standard plasterboard fixings are adequate given the light weight of the aluminium body.
