Description

Not a fitting that asks for an electrician or a chase cut into the plaster, our plug-in Asteria is the answer to lighting a wall without the fuss. It keeps things ready to go: a round wall plate holds a short straight arm that carries a flat circular disc shade, and a black fabric cable runs down from the plate to a plug, so all you need is a nearby socket. It suits the spaces where hardwiring would be more trouble than it is worth, and at 15cm across it stays neat against the wall.

The finish here is Nuance Rose over a Steel core, a soft pink-toned colour that we find warms up a room without shouting for attention. Made from steel, aluminium and acrylic, the fitting comes with a 2.2m black cord and takes around ten minutes to put together. The built-in 12W panel gives 500 lumen at a warm 2700K, and with a CRI of 91 the light reads colours honestly rather than flattening them. It is dimmable too, so you can wind it down for the evening, and the panel is rated for 50000 hours of use. It measures 9.6cm high, 25cm deep and 15cm in diameter, and carries CE, UKCA, WEEE and IP2X marks for indoor use.

We like the Asteria beside a bed, flanking a mirror or in a reading nook where a switched socket sits close by. The Nuance Rose finish sits happily against warm neutrals and deeper greys, and the disc shade throws a gentle downward glow that suits a corner you want soft rather than bright.
