Description
The Alfa is a 300mm circular bulkhead wall light with a black powder-coated body, an opal polycarbonate diffuser, and an IP66 rating against water and dust ingress. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb (sold separately) and sits directly on the mounting surface via four visible fixing screws at the cardinal points of the circular frame. The eyelid-style cowl hood at the top reduces direct glare and directs the majority of light downwards and outwards.
Designed for outdoor walls, porches, garages, sheds, commercial buildings, stairwells and utility areas, the Alfa provides robust functional lighting where weather exposure is a concern. The IP66 rating means the fitting is fully dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction, making it suitable for coastal installations, car wash areas, or anywhere subject to driving rain or hose-down cleaning. The E27 socket is compatible with dimmable LED bulbs when paired with a compatible dimmer circuit.
The black powder-coated finish on the body resists UV degradation and surface corrosion in outdoor conditions. The opal polycarbonate diffuser is impact-resistant and less brittle than glass, reducing breakage risk in high-traffic or vandal-prone areas. The 300mm diameter provides enough diffusion to soften the light from a 100W-equivalent LED bulb without creating harsh shadows on door thresholds or walkways. Ideal Lux backs this fitting with a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP66 rating mean in practical terms?
IP66 means the fitting is fully dust-tight (IP6X) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (IPX6). The Alfa can withstand driving rain, hose-down cleaning, and coastal spray without water entering the enclosure. This makes it suitable for external walls, covered porches, garages, and commercial settings where washdown is required.
What bulb does it take and is it dimmable?
The Alfa takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 100W equivalent. Bulbs are sold separately. The fitting is compatible with dimmable LED bulbs when connected to a suitable dimmer circuit — check your bulb and dimmer are both rated for dimming to avoid flicker.
Can it be mounted on a ceiling as well as a wall?
Yes. The circular mounting plate allows the Alfa to be fitted to either a wall or a ceiling surface. The eyelid cowl hood at the top directs light downwards and outwards, so ceiling-mounting works best in areas where downward light distribution is wanted.
How is the polycarbonate diffuser cleaned?
Wipe the diffuser with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The polycarbonate is impact-resistant but can scratch if cleaned with abrasive materials — avoid scouring pads or chemical solvents. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.
