Description

The Aethera is a 400mm diameter cone lampshade from Ideal Lux, built on a fireproof PVC frame and wrapped in dark beige fabric. The conical shape tapers from the 400mm base diameter to a narrower lamp holder aperture at the top, designed to fit standard ES (E27) lamp holders on floor lamps, table lamps and suspension fittings that accept shade rings.

At 40cm base diameter, the Aethera suits larger floor lamps in living rooms and bedrooms, or table lamps positioned on sideboards and console tables where a bigger shade is needed to balance the lamp base height. The fabric outer diffuses light from the bulb inside, softening the downward light output and reducing glare while allowing a small amount of upward glow through the top aperture.

The dark beige tone sits between taupe and sand, providing a warm neutral that pairs with cream, grey, natural wood and brass or bronze lamp bases. The PVC frame structure keeps the shade rigid and heat-resistant, while the fabric covering gives a textile finish that suits both contemporary and transitional interiors. The shade weighs approximately 250g, light enough for most standard lamp fittings without requiring additional support.

What lamp fitting does it attach to?

The Aethera fits standard ES (E27) lamp holders using a shade ring. Most floor lamps and table lamps with exposed bulb holders include a shade ring as part of the fitting. The top aperture diameter is designed for this standard fitting type.

Is the fabric washable?

The fabric outer can be gently vacuumed on a low setting to remove dust. Spot-cleaning with a barely-damp microfibre cloth and distilled water is acceptable for marks, but do not soak the fabric or immerse the shade in water as the PVC frame is not waterproof.

What bulb wattage is safe to use inside?

The fireproof PVC frame is heat-resistant, but Ideal Lux recommends using LED bulbs up to 15W equivalent to avoid excessive heat build-up inside the shade. Avoid halogen or incandescent bulbs above 40W.

Can it be used on a pendant fitting?

Yes, if the pendant fitting has a shade ring adapter. The Aethera cone shape works on both upright table/floor lamp fittings and inverted pendant suspension fittings, though the light distribution will differ between the two orientations.
