Description

The Abstract is a 500mm spherical pendant light built from multiple layers of bent birch laminate, arranged in overlapping rings to form an open cage structure around a central E27 bulb fitting. The light brown natural wood finish shows the grain pattern of the birch plywood layers, and the open construction allows light to filter through the gaps between each curved segment.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and living room feature positions where a mid-sized pendant adds both task and ambient light, the Abstract works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. The 2000mm cable allows the pendant to be set 700-900mm above a dining surface or 600-800mm above a kitchen worktop depending on ceiling height. The single E27 bulb (sold separately) sits exposed at the centre, so a visible-filament LED or decorative bulb is recommended to maintain the open, sculptural appearance.

The birch laminate construction gives the pendant a lightweight 1.2kg presence despite the 500mm diameter, and the natural wood tone pairs comfortably with Scandinavian, mid-century and warm-toned contemporary interiors. Each layer of laminate is secured to vertical black metal ribs that run from the top mounting point to the base, giving the sphere its structural integrity and defining the gaps between each curved segment. The pendant is dimmable when paired with a compatible dimmer and dimmable E27 bulb.

What bulb does the Abstract take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Because the bulb sits exposed at the centre of the open wood sphere, a visible-filament LED or decorative bulb is recommended to maintain the sculptural appearance.

Is the pendant dimmable?

Yes, the fitting itself is dimmable. For full dimming functionality you will also need a compatible dimmer switch and a dimmable E27 bulb. Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific dimmer model and bulb type.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 2000mm cable is adjustable on installation. For a dining table the pendant typically sits 700-900mm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. Lower ceilings can accommodate the pendant if the cable is shortened during fitting.

Can the wood be cleaned?

Wipe the birch laminate layers with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the wood and do not use household sprays or chemical cleaners that may damage the laminate finish.
