Description

Our A Conversation Piece Ottoman arrives in three oak options across our wider range, and this is the one we reach for most often: a Dark Oak frame paired with a Cognac upholstered top. It is a low footstool built on an open solid-oak frame with cross-rails, so there is a lightness to it that heavier designs tend to miss. At 43cm high, 63cm wide and 50cm deep, it sits neatly in front of a sofa or reading chair, and weighing just 7kg, it is easy to move around a room as your seating shifts through the day.

We chose the Cognac colour for its warmth, and it works with the Dark Oak beneath it rather than fighting it. The frame is made from solid oak, with the padded top made from plywood, MDF, polyester and PUR, and the leather upholstery giving it a soft place to rest your feet or set down a tray. We hold this piece to recognised standards, including the EN 16139-L1 furniture standard, ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 for public and lounge seating, the Global Recycled Standard and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, so you can trust what has gone into it. Assembly takes around 20 minutes with no fuss.

Because the frame is open with visible cross-rails, this ottoman reads as furniture in its own right rather than something to tuck away. We like it pulled out from a chair as extra seating when friends call round, or kept at the end of a bed for laying out clothes in the morning. To keep the leather looking its best, wipe it with a soft dry cloth and keep it out of direct sunlight, which helps the Cognac hold its depth. A light going over of the oak now and then is all the frame really asks of you.
