At just 43cm high and 63cm wide, our A Conversation Piece Black Oak Ottoman gives you a low, easy footstool that slots neatly in front of a sofa or reading chair without dominating the room. With a depth of 50cm, there is plenty of space to rest your feet, perch a tray, or offer a spare seat when friends come round. It sits lightly in a room, and at only 7kg it is simple to shift from one spot to another as your day changes. The open solid-oak frame with cross-rails keeps everything looking airy rather than bulky.

The upholstered top is finished in a warm Brown that we think works with most living spaces, from pale neutrals to deeper, cosier schemes. It rests on a Black Oak frame, giving you a grounded base beneath the soft cushioned seat. The piece is made from solid oak, plywood, MDF and PUR, with a polyester cover, so you get a footstool that feels substantial underfoot while staying easy to live with. It carries the EN 16139-L1 furniture standard, the Global Recycled Standard, ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 for public and lounge seating, and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, which tells you it has been properly tested.

Assembly takes around 20 minutes, so you can have it ready to use the same afternoon it arrives. To keep the upholstery looking its best, we suggest a regular light brush or vacuum and a prompt wipe of any spills with a clean, barely damp cloth. Wipe the oak frame with a soft dry cloth and keep it out of direct heat. Style it low and central for a relaxed look, or pair it with a taller armchair so the cushioned top doubles as a footrest whenever you want to put your feet up.
