Description
The Knightsbridge 9W CCT LED bulkhead is a wall or ceiling-mountable IP65-rated luminaire with adjustable colour temperature switching between 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 5700K daylight at the point of installation. The fitting includes a 3-hour maintained emergency mode with a dedicated battery pack, keeping the light operational during mains power loss and meeting emergency lighting standards for commercial, multi-occupancy and office environments.
Designed for both internal and external applications where moisture or dust ingress is a concern, the bulkhead fits porches, corridors, plant rooms, car parks, storage areas, stairwells and communal hallways. The IP65 rating protects the internal LED driver and emergency battery from water jets and dust, while the polycarbonate construction resists impact better than glass diffusers. The 256mm diameter and 74mm projection suit standard brick or block walls and plasterboard ceilings with typical UK joist spacing.
The hinged LED gear tray allows access to the driver and emergency battery without removing the entire fitting from the wall, simplifying lamp replacement and emergency battery servicing. The push-fit terminal block accepts 1.5mm² cable without needing a screwdriver, speeding installation on multi-unit projects. The CCT adjustment is set via a switch on the driver before final assembly, allowing the installer to match the colour temperature to surrounding fittings or to suit the room use — 3000K for residential-feeling spaces, 4000K for offices and commercial settings, 5700K for technical or security applications.
The luminaire produces 730 lumens at 3000K, 810 lumens at 4000K, and 780 lumens at 5700K from a 9W LED source, giving efficacy of approximately 90-118 lm/W depending on CCT setting. The opal diffuser spreads the light across a 115-degree beam angle, providing general wash light rather than directional spotlighting. In emergency mode the output drops to 190 lumens, sufficient to meet minimum illumination requirements for safe egress. The fitting is rated for 50,000 hours L70B50 lifespan at full output.

Frequently Asked
How is the CCT colour temperature selected?
The colour temperature is adjusted via a switch on the LED driver before the diffuser is secured. Set it to 3000K for warm white, 4000K for neutral white, or 5700K for daylight white. Once the fitting is sealed, the CCT setting is fixed until the fitting is reopened.
What does the 3-hour maintained emergency mode mean?
The bulkhead contains an internal battery pack that charges from the mains supply. In maintained mode, the fitting operates normally on mains power and switches to battery power automatically if mains supply is lost, continuing to provide 190 lumens of light for a minimum of 3 hours. This meets UK emergency lighting requirements for escape routes and communal areas.
Can it be used outdoors in all weather?
Yes. The IP65 rating protects the internal components from water jets and dust ingress, making the bulkhead suitable for external walls, porches, covered walkways and car parks. Avoid positioning the fitting where it will be submerged or suffer sustained direct water pressure.
How is the emergency battery serviced?
The hinged gear tray allows access to the driver and battery without removing the entire fitting from the mounting surface. The warranty covers the LED driver and housing for 5 years but excludes the emergency battery, which typically requires replacement every 3-4 years depending on usage and environmental conditions.
