Description
The Knightsbridge SHE2GEMS is an 18W outdoor LED bulkhead with integrated emergency backup, microwave motion sensor and CCT-switchable LED gear tray, housed in a grey die-cast aluminium body with an impact-resistant polycarbonate diffuser. The emergency mode operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched configurations, delivering 105-120lm during power failures. The microwave sensor triggers on motion within its detection zone, providing hands-free operation for pathways and entrances.
Designed for outdoor commercial, industrial and residential applications, the bulkhead suits car parks, loading bays, external stairwells, building entrances and storage yards where robust lighting with emergency backup is required. The IP65 rating seals the housing against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making it suitable for exposed locations in all UK weather conditions. The 360mm diameter gives a substantial light distribution footprint, while the eyelid hood directs output downward and forward to reduce light spill upward.
The CCT selector on the LED gear tray allows the colour temperature to be set at 3000K (warm white, 1020lm), 4000K (neutral white, 1080lm) or 6000K (cool white, 1090lm) during installation, giving flexibility to match site lighting standards or occupant preference. The die-cast aluminium construction and anti-vandal design make the fitting resistant to impact damage in public or semi-public outdoor areas. The 50,000-hour L70B50 rating indicates the LED maintains at least 70% of its initial output for 50,000 hours of operation, reducing maintenance frequency compared to traditional bulkhead lamps.

Frequently Asked
What does the emergency function do?
The bulkhead has an integrated battery pack that provides emergency illumination during mains power failure. It can operate in maintained mode (always on), non-maintained mode (emergency only), or switched mode (normal switching with emergency backup). Emergency output is 105-120lm depending on CCT setting.
How does the microwave sensor work?
The microwave sensor detects motion within its zone and triggers the light to full output. Detection range and sensitivity depend on mounting height and sensor settings. The sensor reduces energy use in low-traffic areas by switching the light off when no motion is detected.
Can the colour temperature be changed after installation?
The CCT selector is on the LED gear tray inside the housing, so changing the colour temperature requires opening the bulkhead and moving the selector switch. This is typically done during installation or maintenance, not as a regular adjustment.
Is this suitable for coastal environments?
The IP65 rating protects against water jets and dust, making it suitable for most UK outdoor environments. In coastal locations with heavy salt exposure, check the fixture periodically for corrosion and rinse the housing with fresh water if salt buildup occurs.
