Description
The Knightsbridge SHE2GEMP is an 18W LED eyelid bulkhead with integrated emergency lighting, an automatic daylight sensor, and selectable colour temperature (3000K, 4000K or 6000K). The die-cast aluminium body carries an IP65 rating against dust and water ingress, and the eyelid hood directs light downward to reduce glare and light pollution in residential areas.
Designed for outdoor installation on building facades, car parks, walkways and communal areas where both mains lighting and emergency backup are required, the bulkhead includes a maintained/non-maintained/switched emergency mode that activates during mains failure. The integral photocell sensor switches the bulkhead on at dusk and off at dawn, removing the need for timers or manual switching. The CCT adjustment is selected via a switch on the LED gear tray before installation, allowing the installer to match the light output to the site requirement.
The 360mm diameter die-cast body is finished in grey powder coat to resist corrosion in coastal and urban environments. The opal polycarbonate diffuser is impact-resistant and secured with stainless steel fixings. The eyelid hood sits above the diffuser to shield the light source from direct view, reducing upward light spill and meeting Dark Sky guidance for residential exteriors. At 3000K the output is 1020lm, at 4000K it is 1080lm, and at 6000K it is 1090lm — all from the same 18W power draw.
The emergency battery provides 105-120lm output depending on the selected CCT, with a typical 3-hour duration in emergency mode. The L70B50 life rating of 50,000 hours translates to approximately 11 years of operation at 12 hours per night, assuming the photocell controls the on/off cycle. The 5-year warranty covers the LED and driver but excludes the emergency battery, which is a consumable component requiring periodic replacement.

Frequently Asked
What does the daylight sensor do?
The integral photocell switches the bulkhead on automatically at dusk and off at dawn, removing the need for timers or manual switching. The sensor reads ambient light levels and activates the LED when natural light falls below a threshold, typically around sunset.
How does the emergency function work?
The bulkhead includes an internal battery that activates when mains power is lost. It can be set to maintained (always on when mains is on, then switches to battery on failure), non-maintained (only activates on mains failure), or switched (controlled by a wall switch). Emergency output is 105-120lm for approximately 3 hours.
How do I select the colour temperature?
The CCT is adjusted via a switch on the LED gear tray before installation. Options are 3000K (warm white, 1020lm), 4000K (neutral white, 1080lm), or 6000K (cool white, 1090lm). Once set and the bulkhead is sealed, the setting cannot be changed without reopening the unit.
What does the eyelid hood do?
The eyelid sits above the diffuser and shields the light source from direct upward view, directing light downward and reducing glare for nearby windows. This reduces light pollution and helps the fitting comply with Dark Sky guidance in residential areas.
