Description
The Knightsbridge Sherpa 18W outdoor LED bulkhead combines emergency lighting with adjustable colour temperature in a vandal-resistant die-cast aluminium housing finished in matt black. The fitting measures 360mm diameter with 92mm projection from the wall, and houses an 18W SMD LED gear tray with a switchable CCT selector offering 3000K (1680lm), 4000K (1790lm) or 6000K (1810lm) output behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser.
Designed for external installation on building entrances, car parks, loading bays, industrial yards and communal walkways, the bulkhead carries an IP65 rating protecting against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. The emergency function operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched modes, delivering 190-200lm in emergency mode to comply with BS 5266 for escape route lighting. The fitting is hardwired to mains 230V 50Hz with a Class I earth requirement.
The die-cast aluminium body resists impact and corrosion in coastal, industrial and high-traffic environments, while the opal diffuser spreads a 110-degree beam across surfaces without glare hotspots. At 132.6lm/W efficacy and a CRI greater than 85, the LED maintains consistent colour rendering across the selectable colour temperatures. The L70B50 rating of 50,000 hours indicates the fitting will retain at least 70% of initial light output after 50,000 operating hours under typical conditions.
The CCT selector is adjusted once during installation via a switch on the gear tray, setting the colour temperature for the life of the fitting unless manually changed. The emergency battery charges continuously on mains power and activates automatically on mains failure, providing three hours of reduced-lumen operation. The 5-year warranty covers the LED and driver but excludes the emergency battery.

Frequently Asked
How does the CCT selection work?
The colour temperature is adjusted once during installation via a switch on the LED gear tray inside the fitting. The three positions correspond to 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, or 6000K cool white. Once set, the colour temperature remains fixed unless the fitting is reopened and the switch manually changed.
What are the emergency modes?
The bulkhead supports three emergency configurations: maintained (LED stays on continuously, switches to battery on mains failure), non-maintained (LED off until mains fails, then battery activates), and switched (LED controlled by wall switch, battery activates on mains failure). The mode is selected during wiring and commissioning.
Is this suitable for coastal environments?
The IP65 rating and die-cast aluminium body provide protection against salt spray and moisture in coastal installations. However, regular cleaning to remove salt build-up will extend the finish life in direct marine exposure.
What back box or mounting is required?
The bulkhead surface-mounts directly to a wall or ceiling using the four fixing holes visible on the rear plate. No back box is needed. The fitting requires a stable flat surface and access to mains 230V wiring with earth connection.
