Description

The Knightsbridge OP2 is a 20AX 1-gang 2-way switch built for outdoor installation, enclosed in a black polycarbonate housing rated IP66 for protection against dust ingress and high-pressure water jets. A blue LED above the circular rocker indicates switch activity and provides location visibility in low light, making it easier to find the switch on an external wall after dark.

Designed for outdoor lighting circuits, garden features, outdoor security lighting and covered patio installations, the switch mounts directly to exterior walls without needing a separate back box. The IP66 and IK06 ratings mean the switch resists rain, snow, dust and impact from moderate mechanical shock (equivalent to a 1kg mass dropped from 200mm). The 20AX rating handles up to 4,600W on 230V supply, suitable for multiple outdoor light circuits or high-wattage floodlights.

The 90mm square housing projects 66mm from the wall once fitted, with multiple 20mm cable entry points around the perimeter allowing flexible cable routing from above, below or either side. The polycarbonate body resists UV degradation and temperature cycling between -5°C and +40°C without cracking or colour fade. The circular rocker mechanism is sealed behind the faceplate to prevent water ingress during operation, and the earth terminal provides Class II protection for metal light fittings.

IP66 means the switch is protected against dust ingress (first 6) and high-pressure water jets from any direction (second 6). This makes it suitable for exposed outdoor walls, covered patios and areas subject to rain and hosing down, but not continuous submersion.

What is the 20AX rating?

20AX means the switch can handle up to 20 amps on 230V supply, equivalent to 4,600W. This is sufficient for multiple outdoor light circuits, high-wattage floodlights or a combination of security lights on a single circuit.

What does 2-way switching mean?

2-way switching allows the same light or circuit to be controlled from two different switch locations. To set this up you need two 2-way switches wired with a 3-core cable between them, allowing either switch to turn the circuit on or off independently.
