Description
Velvet Green Rect. is a wall mirror 150cm high by 90cm wide in a deep box frame covered in olive green velvet, with the glass recessed inside it. The frame is 6cm deep and its inner return is as visible as the front face, so the mirror sits in a lined opening rather than behind a flat border. The nap reads lighter on the front and darker down the return, which gives one colour two tones. The design is by Esther Everaert.
Olive against oak or against a warm white wall is the easiest placing; against a cool grey it reads more strongly and wants space either side. It suits a bedroom, a dressing area or a living room. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it clear of steam, because velvet and humidity are a poor pairing. It hangs in two directions on two hooks with wall plugs. At 15kg it is a comfortable two person lift, and the 6cm depth is worth measuring against a door swing.
The frame is velvet over a box section and the glass is plain mirror. Dust the velvet with a soft brush along the nap rather than against it and keep liquid off it; clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a cloth rather than onto the mirror, so nothing runs down onto the fabric. A velvet frame is an unusual thing on a mirror and it behaves like upholstery rather than like a moulding: it marks, it holds dust, and it rewards a brush more than a cloth. The same frame is made in an ochre and a dusty blue. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
What is the frame made of?
Velvet over a deep box section, 6cm deep, with the glass recessed inside it.
Why does the colour look uneven?
That is the nap. It takes light differently on the front face and down the inner return, so one colour reads as two tones.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. It is not rated for bathroom use, and velvet and steam are a poor pairing.
How do I clean the velvet?
Brush along the nap with something soft and keep liquid off it.
What other colours are made?
An ochre and a dusty blue in the same frame.
