Description

The Selya is a 2 light wall light combining Czech-made flared glass cups with a polished chrome twin-arm frame. Each arm curves symmetrically outward from a central chrome stem, holding a translucent glass shade that diffuses light from an SES bulb inside. The chrome base tapers to a finial detail below the central backplate, giving the fitting a traditional candelabra-inspired silhouette compressed into a 21cm projection from the wall.

Designed for hallways, bedroom headboards and beside bathroom mirrors, the Selya works where twin sources of soft light are needed without a deep projection. The 36cm width pairs two bulbs across a surface rather than concentrating output from a single point, reducing harsh shadows when mounted either side of a mirror or above a console table. The polished chrome finish reflects ambient light during the day and adds a crisp accent against both warm-toned and cool-toned walls.

The Czech glass cups are formed with a flared trumpet shape that holds the light source inside the shade rather than exposing it, keeping glare low when the fitting is mounted at typical eye-level heights of 1.6-1.8m. Each cup shows slight variation in thickness and tone depending on the glass batch, a characteristic of hand-formed Czech glasswork. The combined glass and chrome construction gives the fitting a 3kg weight that requires secure fixing into masonry or a wall stud rather than plasterboard alone.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Selya takes two SES (Small Edison Screw, E14 base) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for ambient hallway or bedroom lighting.

What's the projection from the wall?

The fitting projects 21cm from the wall when mounted. This makes it suitable for hallways and beside mirrors where deep projection would obstruct movement, but still provides enough clearance for the glass cups to diffuse light without being flush against the wall surface.

Can it be mounted on plasterboard?

The 3kg weight requires secure fixing into masonry, a timber stud, or plasterboard backed by cavity fixings rated for at least 5kg. Standard plasterboard plugs alone are not sufficient. If mounting onto plasterboard without a stud behind, use heavy-duty spring toggle fixings or similar rated anchors.

Does the glass vary between pieces?

Yes. The Czech glass cups are hand-formed, so slight variation in thickness, tone and clarity is normal between individual pieces and between batches. This is a characteristic of traditional Czech glasswork, not a defect.
