Description

The Orell is a 2-light lantern pendant with a cylindrical clear glass shade enclosed by an antique brass frame, suspended on a matching brass chain. Two SES (E14) candle bulbs sit on curved brass arms inside the glass cylinder, visible from all sides. The domed top finial and arched support straps give the lantern a classical profile without heavy ornamentation.

Designed for hallways, entrance halls, stairwells and above console tables, the Orell works in spaces that need ambient light without a strong directional throw. The 23cm diameter and 40cm height suit standard 2.4m ceiling heights with the pendant hanging 1.8-2.0m above floor level, high enough to clear head height in circulation zones. The clear glass allows light to spread in all directions rather than focusing it downward, making the fitting more effective as decorative ambient lighting than task light.

The antique brass finish has a warm, aged tone that sits between polished brass and darker bronzes, pairing well with traditional oak, walnut and mahogany furniture as well as neutral-toned contemporary interiors. The glass cylinder is smooth and untextured, so the light pattern depends entirely on the bulb choice — clear filament candle bulbs create visible glow and shadow lines, while frosted or pearl candle bulbs diffuse more evenly. The 40cm height plus chain drop typically positions the lantern 1.8-2.0m above floor level when hung from a 2.4m ceiling. This works in hallways and entrance areas where people walk beneath it. For rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m, the chain can be shortened on installation to maintain clearance.

Can the glass be removed for cleaning?

The glass cylinder is held between the top and bottom brass bands. The fitting disassembles for bulb changes and cleaning, though this requires removing the lantern from the ceiling hook. Wipe the glass with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner — avoid soaking the brass frame.

What finish is the antique brass?

Antique brass has a warm, aged tone with darker patina than polished brass but lighter than oil-rubbed bronze. The finish is applied during manufacture and is not a live patina that changes over time.
